Who We Are

In May 1998, John W. Perry, Jr. and Daniel J. Balhoff teamed up to form a new Baton Rouge law firm.  They had already practiced together for several years, first representing defendants in civil cases, and later representing plaintiffs. Joseph W. Mengis, Robert J. Burns, Jr., and John W. Perry, III later joined the firm, known today as Perry, Balhoff, Mengis & Burns, L.L.C.

At its founding, the firm's lawyers devoted almost all of their time to litigation, but that is no longer the case. While our lawyers still try numerous cases, they also serve as mediators, arbitrators, and Special Masters. And Joe Mengis is one of the most respected lawyers in Louisiana in the fields of estate planning, wills, and successions.

Our Commitment

For every case, no matter how large or small, we promise our clients:

  • Hard work. We will give each matter the attention it deserves, as opposed to just enough to get by.
  • Communication. We will immediately respond to our clients’ calls. And we will keep our clients informed even if they don’t call.
  • Experience. On average, our lawyers have more than 20 years of legal experience. With experience comes judgment, and we will exercise it soundly on your behalf.
  • Timeliness. We will bring legal matters to the appropriate conclusion as quickly as possible.
  • Honesty. We will evaluate your case honestly and tell you what we think up front—because if your lawyer isn’t being objective, you can’t intelligently decide whether to litigate.
  • Fidelity. Above all, we promise to put our clients’ interests before our own.
